Trade Liberalization and the Gender Wage Gap: Evidence from Vietnam |
| Abstract |
This paper uses the Vietnam Household Living Standards Surveys to measure Vietnam's gender wage gap between 1992 and 2004. During this period of renovation and transition to a market economy, Vietnam's international trade has risen and there has been a shift in the industries in which men and women work. I run Mincerian earnings regressions and perform wage decompositions to determine whether differences in workers' characteristics or differences in the returns to their characteristics explain changes in the wage gap. Finally, I explore whether increased exposure to international trade, either exports or imports, has affected the gender wage gap. |
