PDF Anonymization Utility

PDF files generated by Word and other text processing products typically contain information which identify the author of the document. Since PDF files that identify the referee's name are unsuitable for the distribution to the author(s), referees are encouraged to ensure that the PDF files they send to journal editors do not contain such identifying information.

To see if your document contains such information, open your PDF file in Acrobat Reader and select the "Document Info" option in the "File" menu. In the "Document Info" menu, select "General Info". Check the field marked "Author". If it contains your name, or the name of your academic institution, you will need to use this our anonymization utility before sending us a referee report.

This online PDF file anonymization utility replaces the /Author (...) and /Title (...) tags in the PDF file with the word "Anonymized" and also strips away the data in the XMP stream of the PDF file. This online utility uses the free pdftk software to process PDF files.

To use our PDF file anonymization utility, simply select the file name of your PDF file and upload it to our server. Your PDF will not be stored on our server. The utility will return a cleaned-up PDF file. Select the "Save as" option in your "File" menu to save the file.

Please be patient. Depending on the length of your PDF file and the speed of your internet connection, uploading your PDF file and downloading the cleaned PDF file may take between a few seconds and a few minutes. Do not click on the STOP button while the uploading/downloading routine is in progress.
