Canadian Economics Employment Exchange
December 7-8, 2012 Intercontinental, Yorkville, Toronto The Canadian Economics Employment Exchange (CEEE) will be on December 7 and 8 at the Intercontinental Hotel (Yorkville) at 220 Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 1T8. The hotel can be reached by phone at +1-416-960-5200. The purpose of the CEEE is to facilitate the search of Canadian PhD candidates who are seeking employment and of the Canadian organizations who may be interested in hiring these candidates. The CEEE meetings will begin on Friday, December 7th, with interviews taking place approximately between noon and 6:00 pm (starting may differ for each university). On Saturday, December 8th, the interviews will continue from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Most interviews are arranged prior to the CEEE. Both candidates and organizations should schedule their interviews before the CEEE by directly contacting each other. Information on the available candidates can be found on the web sites of Economics Departments. Links to the Economics Departments are available on this site. On Friday morning at 10am, the Canadian Women Economists Network will be hosting a coffee break at the CEEE Information Centre. Come meet CWEN members in the academia and chat about your upcoming interviews. On Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm, there will be a reception sponsored by the Bank of Canada. The reception is held at the Department of Economics of UofT (only a few blocks from the Intercontinental): Max Gluskin House, University of Toronto, 150 St. George St., Toronto, Ontario M5S 3G7, Canada.
INFORMATION CENTRE AND REGISTRATION
There will be an Information Centre in Suite 725 (7th floor) of the Intercontinental Hotel, open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on December 7th and 8th. Employers should register at the information centre and report their hotel room numbers. A message board and hotel house telephone will be available. Interviews are usually conducted in the rooms of the interviewer(s). Candidates especially should note that hotel staff will not give out room numbers: this information will only be available at the information centre.
REGISTRATION FEES There is no charge for candidates.
A fee of $169.50 per employer ($150 plus 13% HST[ON]) is required to cover the costs of operating the exchange. Employers should pre-register as this gives an indication of the number attending. Please make your credit card payment using our online payment system. Employers (typically represented by the department chair) should log in to their account on my.economics.ca, click on "Make Payment", and select the CEEE 2012 registration fee.
If you are paying online, please send an email to Anne Motte (office@economics.ca, with "CEEE" in the subject line) to indicate whose name is on the credit card that you have used and for which organization you are recruiting.
Alternatively, payments can be made by cheque. Please make cheques payable to the Canadian Economics Association and send them to: Candidates should also send an email with their name and affiliation.
HOTEL RESERVATIONS Rooms have been reserved for the CEEE at the Intercontinental Hotel. Interviews will take place in hotel guest rooms, not meeting rooms. The cost of these rooms is $199 per night. Check-in time: 3pm. Check-out time: noon. Those wishing to interview on Friday morning need to make a reservation on Thursday night or arrange early check-in.
