Canadian Economics Employment Exchange
December 4-5, 2009
Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto

The Canadian Economics Employment Exchange (CEEE) will be on December 4 and 5 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto at 21 Avenue Road, Toronto, Ontario, M5R 2G1. The hotel can be reached by phone at +1-416-964-0411.

The purpose of the CEEE is to facilitate the search of Canadian PhD candidates who are seeking employment and of the Canadian organizations who may be interested in hiring these candidates.

The CEEE meetings will begin on Friday, December 4th, with interviews taking place approximately between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. On Friday night, there will also be a reception for CEEE participants in the East Common Room at Hart House. NOTE: there has been a change of venue for the reception. It will be held in the Common Room of the Department of Ecohomics, University of Tornonto, 150 St. George Street, from 6pm to 8pm. Maps will be available at the registration room. On Saturday, December 5th, the interviews will continue from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

Most interviews are arranged prior to the CEEE. Both candidates and organizations should try to schedule their interviews before the CEEE by directly contacting each other. Information on the available candidates can be found on the web sites of Economics Departments. Links to the Economics Departments are available on this site.

INFORMATION CENTRE AND REGISTRATION

There will be an information centre in room 410 of the Four Seasons Hotel, open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on December 4th and 5th. Employers and candidates should register at the information centre and report their hotel room numbers. A message board and hotel house telephone will be available. Interviews are usually conducted in the rooms of the interviewer(s). Candidates especially should note that hotel staff will not give out room numbers: this information will only be available at the information centre.

REGISTRATION FEES

There is no charge for candidates. A fee of $105 per employer ($100 plus 5% GST - BN 12172 1245) is required to cover the costs of operating the exchange. Employers should pre-register as this gives an indication of the number attending. Please make cheques payable to the Canadian Economics Association and send them to:

If you are paying online, please send an email to Steve Ambler (steve.ambler@gmail.com, with "CEEE" in the subject line) to indicate whose name is on the credit card that you have used and for which organization you are recruiting.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

For employers/interviewers Deluxe Four Seasons Executive Suites have been reserved at the Four Seasons Hotel. The suites have separate areas for sleeping and interviewing. Interviews will take place in hotel guest rooms, not meeting rooms. The cost of these rooms is $215 per night. Check-in time: 3pm. Check-out time: noon. Those wishing to interview on Friday morning need to make a reservation on Thursday night or arrange early check-in. We have also reserved a block of ordinary rooms at a slightly lower per-night rate ($200.00). Interviewers who are sending a team will therefore have the option of booking one suite for conducting interviews and one or more ordinary rooms.

Please make reservations directly with the Four Seasons Hotel at 416-964-0411 (or fax to 416-964-2301) and quote group name "Canadian Economics Employment Exchange". Please send e-mail reservation requests to reservations.tfs@fourseasons.com.

Please note: if you are planning on conducting interviews on Saturday afternoon and leaving Toronto on Saturday evening, you are responsible for negotiating the terms of your late departure directly with the hotel.

For students and those who don't want to stay at the Four Seasons Hotel, rooms have been reserved at the Holiday Inn Toronto Midtown (formerly Quality Hotel). The room rate is $129.99 per night for single/double and $139.99 for triple/quad. The deadline for the group rate is November 3, 2009. Reservation can be made by calling the hotel directly at 416-968-0010, email at cn312res@whg.com or via fax at 416-968-7765. Please refer to group code "CEE". To book by fax, please use their form.
