1998 CEA Meetings
During the winter of 1997, the CEA conducted a mail ballot on
the question of holding the CEA Meetings outside of the Learneds,
which is now the Congress. We received 150 ballots with 120 being in
favour of separate Meetings. This is a clear mandate to try separate
Meeting. Recall that the ballot did not specify what year to begin
separate Meetings and the separate Meetings are an experiment which we
would try for two years. After the experiment, we would re-assess
whether we wanted to continue with the Learneds.
In St. John's there was extensive discussion at the two
Executive Council Meetings and the Annual General Meeting. In
addition, Parkin, Boadway, Riddell and Denny met with representatives
of HSSFC. The latter would very much like us to attend the first HSSFC
Congress in Ottawa in 1998.
The decision was made to participate in the Ottawa Congress in
1998 and to hold a separate CEA Meeting in 1999.
Information about the 1998 Congress can be found at the HSSFC
site, http://www.hssfc.ca
Any comments or questions about the CEA decision should be sent to
Michael Denny at denny@chass.utoronto.ca.
