The Canadian Women Economists Network was very active at the June,
1998 meetings of the Canadian Economics Association, organizing three
sessions (Modelling Household Behaviour: Cohabitation, Marriage and
Divorce; Household Behaviour in Developing Economies; Testing Models
of Household Behaviour) and hosting a luncheon. All three sessions
were excellent in terms of interesting papers, useful and constructive
discussants' comments, and knowledgeable participation on the part of
the audience. Many thanks to all involved for making the sessions such
a success.
At the luncheon, we held our annual business meeting, elected the new
executive and discussed priorities for next year. The new executive
for 1998/99 consists of:

Roberta Robb (Brock) |
| Vice-President: |
Joann Kingston-Riechers (McMaster) |
| Past-President: |
Shelley Phipps (Dalhousie) |
| Secretary/Treasurer |
Linda Welling (Univ. of Victoria) |

| Member-at-Large |

The Priorities for next year include:
- Organizing an informal meeting for women economists at the
Canadian Economics Employment Exchange in Early December. At this
meeting, senior faculty women will e available to answer questions and
provide advice to graduate students and/or junior faculty who are
looking for employment. More detailed information on this event will
be available on the CWEN Web Page (http://www.yorku.ca/research/cwen)
closer to the date.
- Developing the criteria for at least one, and
possibly two CWEN prizes to be awarded annually at the CEA meetings.
- Giving the CWEN luncheon a higher profile by inviting a prominent
speaker to give an address on her/his area of interest or some topic
pertaining to gender issues.
- Organizing one or two sessions for
the annual conference of the International Association of Feminist
Economics (IAFFE) to be held at Carleton University in the summer of
1999 (dates to be announced later).
- Undertaking a systematic
membership drive. The purpose of CWEN is to allow women and interested
male economists to discuss issues of common interest, particularly
(but not exclusively) in the area of gender issues. It is also
designed to serve as a notice board for job postings and calls for
papers, and as a facilitating organization to help younger women
successfully integrate into the profession. Membership is open to
women, men and institutions in academia, business, or
government. Membership rates for 1998/99 are : Regular Memberships -
$20; Students - $10; Institutions - $25. If you have not renewed your
membership for 1998/99, or wish to join as a new member, please
